If you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) that requires treatment, your doctor may prescribe Eltroxin

Hypothyroidism can be effectively treated with Eltroxin

How to take Eltroxin

Eltroxin should be taken at least 30 minutes before breakfast, preferably on an empty stomach.

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.

Always make sure you have enough Eltroxin

It’s important that you do not run out of Eltroxin, especially over weekends or on holidays where you may not be able to get more.

Some pharmacies have a reminder service for repeat prescriptions, and they will remind you when your next repeat is due.

Or, you can set up a reminder on your calendar or phone.

It’s important to stay on Eltroxin

The New Zealand Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Authority, Medsafe, recommends that people stay on the same brand of thyroid treatment.

If you change your doctor or pharmacist (e.g. if you move to a new area), it is important to let them know that you are on Eltroxin.

If you forget to take Eltroxin

If you forget to take Eltroxin, wait until the next dose and take your normal dose then. Do not take an extra dose.

If you are not sure what to do, worried or concerned, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
